Corinium Museum ‘Romans’ App Launches on Android

[MobilePRwire] – The ‘Romans’ app, created by TapMob, will give visitors to Cirencester and its museum an in-depth experience of the Roman town. The app, available for iPhone, iPad and Android Phones and Tablets launches on 4 March 2013, provides a tour of Roman Cirencester taking in the key archaeological sites, an enhanced tour of the Museum plus teacher and pupil learning resources for primary and secondary schools.

The app is a first for the Museum as it embraces new technology to harness new revenue streams and enhance the visitor experience. It also allows the Museum for the first time to promote itself to a global audience.

‘Romans’ includes artists’ impressions of what the town and its people looked like and photographs of objects found during excavations in the town, now on display in the Museum. The Town Tour uses GPS navigation to pin point your location within the town as it is now and as it was, laid out by the Romans. The main Roman sites are represented, you can hear archaeologists talking about the excavations, see photographs of the excavations taking place and find out what objects were discovered at each of the sites and take a walking tour around the town to visit the different sites. The Learning Zone is ideal for anyone teaching the Romans or for children studying the Romans in school.

The response to the app has been very positive when tested with visitors and volunteers at the Museum and classes from local schools prior to launch.
